Edwin Loe Elementary students have made impressive strides in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency during the 2023-2024 school year, as shown by the latest North Dakota State Assessment results. The test measures the proficiency of all students in grades three through six.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic affected schools nationwide, the New Town School District and Edwin Loe Elementary School have been dedicated to addressing the learning loss that students experienced. In 2021 at Edwin Loe Elementary School, only 4% of students were proficient in Math, and 17% were proficient in ELA. Each year since, we have seen steady improvements.
This year, the dedicated efforts of staff, students, and families resulted in:
● Math proficiency increased from 29% in 2022-2023 to 47%, with 14% of students scoring advanced.
● ELA proficiency rose from 39% in 2022-2023 to 46%, with 8% of students scoring advanced.
These improvements reflect a comprehensive approach that includes individualized interventions, after-school programs, and targeted professional development for teachers.
The New Town School District commends the dedication of Edwin Loe Elementary’s staff, students, and families in achieving these significant gains. Under Principal Mrs. Jenell Bear's leadership, the school exemplifies the power of collaboration between schools and families. We look forward to continuing this collaboration and celebrating further growth in the years to come.
